Second Amendment Rights

Issue

Federal and state encroachment on citizens’ Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Position

We fully support the U.S. Constitution as the foundation of our rights.  Therefore, we support citizens’ 2nd amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution.

Discussion

The 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution specifically states that American citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, a right that was included to protect "We the People" from an overreaching, tyrannical government.  The U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly interpreted the amendment as affirming individual citizens’ rights, not just those citizens who may be organized and employed as a militia.

Some states and cities have imposed unconstitutional laws, ostensibly aimed at curbing criminal activities, by denying law-abiding citizens their Constitutional rights; Chicago is a prime example.  The city has the strictest gun control laws in the nation, and a gun violence rate that’s always among the very highest. The U.S. Supreme Court’s most recent ruling forced Chicago to abide by the U.S. Constitution and allow law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
