ACTION PLANS: Parents Have Power Over Education Policies
Fayette County’s Board of Education holds monthly public business Meeting Schedule Meetings generally start at 7 p.m. For making public comments go early to sign up.
Address: The LaFayette Educational Center (LEC) is located at 205 LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville, Georgia, just behind the Arby's restaurant in downtown Fayetteville.
PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE ENGAGED with your student’s teachers and school administrators. It is your right to review the content of all books, online courses, videos, and study guides. You also have the right to show up at any time to your child’s school to visit their classroom. Ask your children in depth questions about what they are learning. The videos from the forum presentation will give you some guidance about what to ask and what to look for in their in the books and online courses.
LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS: Parents and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend the meetings of your local board of education. Speak during the public speaking portion of the meeting. Email your school board member and let them know your thoughts on CRT and CSE. Ask your school board members to enact policies that will prevent ANY teaching of the ideologies of Social Emotion Learning or Critical Race Theory in the classroom. Pay special attention to any discussion by the school board of hiring staff to oversee the school district’s “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” programs. DEI is all part of the CRITICAL RACE THEORY (CRT) and SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL).
For example, The website of the Fayette County Schools list a program titled: Rachel’s Challenge–A character education/violence prevention program for grades 4-12. This program falls under the SEL with the focus on teaching inclusion, acceptance, tolerance and diversity. This is described as a national anti-bullying program, based on the story of Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim of the Columbine High School shooting. Students spent 2 hours of their school day in this lecture. Rachel's Challenge is one of many "Social & Emotional Learning" (SEL) programs. Parents should ask constantly if there are special programs in the schools that their children are attending that have nothing to do with the state standards and approved basic curriculum. Many programs are implemented due to state laws requiring the program, sometimes in exchange for receiving funding under federal grants.
ACTION PLAN: VOLUNTEER IN YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL
In Fayette County, volunteers are welcomed to serve in a number of ways, in the classroom, office, and other areas of the schools. According to Dr. Patterson, Fayette Schools Superintendent, parents in the schools are a valuable source to the teachers and administration. While you are there you can also be the "eyes and ears" for what your children are experiencing in their school day. Volunteers are also needed for textbook review panels and media advisory boards for books that are placed in school libraries. Contact your school office to volunteer. Many states are introducing legislation to prohibit the teaching of divisive courses and inaccurate history and civics curriculum, such as the 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory.
This is the language we should expect any bill in Georgia to contain.
HOWEVER.... THE LANGUAGE IN LEGISLATION MATTERS!
We need to contact our state legislators and let them know that we want to pass such legislation in the next session of the Georgia General Assembly which will convene January 2020. Find the contact information for your representative and senator here.

NEWS AND COMMENTARY FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY
Critical Race Theory May Violate Civil Rights Act, the Constitution: Dr. Carol Swain "A lot of white people who are forced into CRT-based training, and forced to confess to being racist because of their race, do not realize that they are protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, and disability," explained the retired professor.
