What is a Special Election?
Note:
*** The special election must be held no less than 30 days and no later than 60 days after the governor calls for the election.
*** The counties representing the vacant district are responsible for conducting the election.
Tuesday, Feb. 13 2024 is election day for voters in parts of Douglas, Carroll, Paulding and Haralson counties.
Voters will head to the polls in a special election. This election will decide who will represent them in the Georgia state Senate District 30 seat.
Four candidates are vying to become the next person elected to the seat. They are:
Previous District 30 Republican State Sen. Mike Dugan, resigned to run for the Congressional seat left open by Rep. Drew Ferguson.
Voters from District 125 will also be headed to the polls on February 13, 2024.
This seat became vacant, after Representative Barry Fleming was appointed to a superior court judgeship in the Columbia Judicial Circuit by Governor Brian Kemp on December 27, 2023. There are 5 candidates running for this position. They are:
Because this is a special election, if no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote total, a runoff will be held on Tuesday, March 12. This is the same date as the Presidential Primary election in Georgia.
