Protect Your Gas & Electric Bills

GET INFORMED ABOUT THIS ELECTION

On Tuesday, November 5th  voters will choose two commissioners for seats on the five-person GA Public Service Commission.

The PSC is important because it is the only entity with oversight of GA utility companies and so determines what these companies charge customers for their electric bills and how they source our energy (i.e. solar, natural gas plants, coal power, batteries, hydropower).

It is critical that Republicans understand the importance of this commission and cast their votes for our candidates , Tim Echols and Fitz Johnson in November.

editorial Interchange Interview with Tim Echols

SOME IMPORTANT HISTORY AND INFORMATION FROM TIM

  • Without strong GOP turnout, Republicans in Georgia may lose two seats on the statewide PSC.
  • In 1992, Republicans took the first of five PSC seats that had been held by Democrats since Reconstruction post-civil war.
  • In 1994, Republicans took two more seats now attaining the majority.
  • This year, on June 17 during the PSC Primaries, Democrats doubled the Republican vote total.
  • On Nov 4 this year, over 220 cities will have elections where the PSC General Election ballot will appear.  Those are mostly Democrat voters.
  • Democrats are at war with fossil fuel and will certainly make changes in Georgia's use of coal and natural gas.  This will jeopardize reliability and limit economic development.
  • After the Pandemic, 32 left-leaning groups asked the PSC to "forgive" the debt of low-income Georgians.  The PSC refused. This subsidy would have been borne by hard-working Georgians.
  • Democrats around the country subsidize green energy projects causing cost-shifting.  Georgia has not previously subsidized such projects.
  • Democrat-run cities like Atlanta ignore important infrastructure investments and instead invest in pet projects.  Fitz Johnson and I have invested in the grid, helping it to be an economic magnet.
  • Democrats want to lower power bills and will reduce the reserve margin in order to do it.  This will jeopardize reliability.
  • Democrats have suggested reducing power company profits and redistributing that money to poor ratepayers.  This impacts the utility's grid investments and the interest rate they borrow at.
